Subway's Jared to Plead Guilty to Sex Crime Charges

Former Subway star Jared Fogle has agreed to plead guilty to child sex and child pornography charges, according to officials with the FBI and the Indiana State Police. According to federal prosecutors, the plea deal will result in Fogle spending no less than 5 years in prison and $1.4 million in restitution to victims involved in the case.

Court documents released Wednesday paint a disturbing picture of the 37-year-old, who rose to fame after losing 245 pounds on his infamous Subway diet. Following an investigation that was launched following the arrest of Russell C. Taylor - the director of Fogle’s children’s charity - Fogle was linked to multiple child pornography images and videos.

In addition to the child porn, authorities also found evidence that Fogle had, on several occasions, traveled and paid for sex with underage girls. Several accounts from individuals who met or knew Fogle also tipped authorities off to Fogle’s actions.

While Fogle intends to plead guilty, there still remains some speculation about his sentencing. According to prosecutors, Fogle will receive no less than 5 years in prison. Many experts believe that he will receive more time than the minimum, and that he could face as many as 12 years behind bars.

As the media and public digest Jared’s downfall, it’s worth noting that the former spokesman has been dropped by Subway and that his wife has filed for divorce. His sudden and powerful descent shows just how damning sex crime allegations - and ultimately convictions - can be to one’s professional, financial, and personal life.
